Freshman Students at the Academy of Art University

This is what students are going through in the lives. Going for Senior in high school still living in your parents house to, now out on your own and a Freshman in High School miles away from Mommy and Daddy. Check out what they had to say. How they are having to be more independent and have no one to rely on but themselves.

A-Line Yellow 60's Coat

As we all know Spring 2011 is here so therefore we need to know the hot Spring styles. So I selected some "Turn your head" outfits. This yellow 60's coast was selected "cuteness" on the Fashion Runway. Michael Kors designed this beautiful A-line shape cute. And you could very well be the girl wearing this... Think about it.

Let Me Transform You

So I finally got a hold of the photographer that BET Networks has been using to shoot their Red Carpet Events, her name is Charrita Rainey. Not only does she freelance but she also has her own company that she has put together. Her business is taken off as well as her photography in the entertainment world. So I did an interview with her and below you will get to read it and if you want to listen please feel free to listen to the Podcast that I have posted below.

Charrita Rainey is a photographer who also does designs with her Graphic Illustration background. Her motto is, “Let me Transform you” and by the looks of her her photos she does exactly that. Charity has taken pictures on the Red Carpet for The Game Primer, Celebration of Gospel and will be seen this year at the 2011 BET awards taken pictures.

Q&A:

NL:
How did you get the opportunity to be a photographer at these exclusive events?

CR: Being that I work at BET Networks I asked the head lady in PR (Public Relations) Zabrina Horton and she liked my work when I showed her and thought I had potential.

NL: What do you like most, shooting at these exclusive events or the intimate setting with your clients? And why?

CR: I like both I enjoy shooting at events because it is a different setting but I enjoy my clients because I have more creative space. I actually gee to know my clients on a more personal level.

NL: Explain to us how you came up with your motto, “LEt me Transform you?”

CR: It came about when I learned how to use Photoshop and I saw how I transformed their picture.

NL: Lastly, what are your future goal? Why? And how do you plan on getting there?

CR: That is a good question, I do not really have plans, I just know God is blessing me now I try to be the best I can be and pray and live my life right. I really work hard and try to be the best I can be at my work.

Well God Bless Charrita on your future endeavors and thank you for stopping by and joining out show.

For those of you out there who want to check out Charrita’s work please go to http://crphotoanddesign.com/

A child is an Accessory?

When did a child become an accessory? A child is a new life a new generation. Do you every ask yourself what is our future looking like for our children? Well, this is a question that we should be asking ourselves. Have you noticed that the pregnancy rate keeps going up in the Junior Highs and High Schools. That should tell us a lot. As parents we are not educating our young children like we should. And as friends we are not keeping our friends educated and encouraging them and ourselves to make the right choices.

I believe that our society needs to take sometime out and reevaluate the decisions that we are making. Sex. What is sex? In the dictionary sex is defined as —Idiom 8. to have sex, to engage in sexual intercourse. Now, no where in that definition does it say anything about when you have sex you can get pregnant, well that is where sex education from school and family come in. We need to be more aware as a community that when engaging in sex there are high chances of getting pregnant. So people if you have sex use protection, having babies has become a trend.

So when did a child become a trend? The answer to that question is never. A child is never an accessory or part of a trend. A child is a new life in the world to keep our generations going and that very child is the next child to run the world when we are old. So let's mature people and by doing that allow ourselves to grow up first before adding someone new in our lives. Reevaluate ourselves and see that maybe we should be using protection if we are going to have sex. Take your time and make sure that you are making the right decision when selecting a mate for life. Set up a foundation for your family. Then get married and if a child fits that part of your life then go ahead and start your family.

We as a society need to think about how we are jumping into life long decisions. Be ready and make sure that we are paving the way for our children. Know that babies are not the new trend or an accessory but a new life that is sent here on earth with a mission to conquer. Educate one another. Know that sex is normal but be safe don't let emotions and pleasure get in the way of making a right decision. Wait till your life is in order to bring life into this world. Give the new generation something to look forward to.

Set the example and lead the way to our new generations future.

Is Orange in?

Is orange the new in color? Well it seems to be, Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas group was found rocking it at the 2011 Kid's Choice Awards and orange has been see walking down the runway. I see the Zest Orange is in and if your not wearing it then your not in.

So if you want to be like everyone else who is in the in, then you can find this Zest orange in MAC and NYX.

Fergie did a great job with her orange.

Living a Double Life?

Do you ever feel like you live a double life due to all the different personalities you have? Ok, ok, maybe not “personalities” but desires. If you answered “yes” (or were on the verge of doing so), don’t feel bad or like you’re part of the eccentric crowd. You are very normal. Women have a variety of sides to them and in order to cater to all of them, we should dress for the appropriate occasion and/or mood. So maybe you’re a business woman Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm wearing nothing but your business attire from Express. Then, you change into your comfortable gym clothing at 5:30pm (probably with make-up on from work) and feel like and athlete. Going from a business woman to an athlete within 24 hours might take good acting skills but it also exercises your mind, body, and soul. One cannot feel like an athlete in business attire nor can they feel ready for a business meeting in gym clothes. Clothing styles, textures, and colors have an immense impact on mood, comfort, and judgment. Would you take an aerobics class in a blazer, skirt, and stilettos? Probably not and if you did, people will laugh at you (that is, before you fall down in your heals). Dressing appropriately for occasion not only shows common sense but it also protrudes an excellent taste. When people recognize that you have good taste, then they will feel more comfortable with you and actually see you as a leader. No matter what occasion you dress for or what you’re wearing…whether it is business, gym, club, or sleep clothes, feeling Glorious and Divine are always the keys to inner-confidence.

Marriage Advice 101

GD Legacy Queens,
Hello and hope you all are doing well. Well, I know we have been talking about relationships lately, so I wanted to do something a little different. Today my mother and I are tag teaming and writing you all an article about marriage.
My mother has been married to my father for 23 years going on 24 in November so she has a lot to speak on when it comes to marriage. Not only that we want to add a twist to this article with giving you all some teachings on what my mother and father have learned since they have been attending marriage missionary at Abundant Living Family Church. Let’s get to it.
So, lets start off by asking the question, “Why do we hear more about love in marriage then respect?”
First, research shows that women are more expressive response in marriage. Meaning, women are more out to let their spouse know how they feel at all times. Secondly, in this culture a love-dominated society, a woman tends to talk far more about her needs for love then her husband talks about his needs for respect. Biblically there are two sides to the martial coin; love and respect. So, we need to keep in mind that we need to see both sides not only culturally but also biblically.

Now, that we are talking about the biblical ways, I want to share with you about how God commanded the husband to agape-love his wife. (1 Corinthians 13/ Ephesians 5:25, 28, 33). Also, Peter and Paul revealed that the secret for a wife is to show unconditional respect for her husband. (1 Peter 3:1,2; Ephesians 5:33). This is just merely saying that unconditional respect is as powerful to a husband as unconditional love is to a wife.
For all the married couples and soon to be married couples remember this so that your marriage will be a healthier relationship and a relationship of understanding.

Presidents Day

President's Day is in honor of our two President's Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. It is every February on the 3rd Monday of the month.

I found this poem, I hope you all like it

 PRESIDENT’S DAY

Back in Seventeen ninety-six
Is when this Holiday began
For the birthday of ol’ George
At least that was the plan.
It was his last full year
Of his Presidency
Born February twenty-second
Or the Eleventh, ‘cause you see
The old calendar was different
Than the one we use today
And some celebrated one
Some people on the other day.
By the early Nineteenth Century
Celebrated every year
Birthnight Balls were held
Taverns reveled in good cheer.
Public figures gave their speeches
And Receptions given by a few
Then along came ol’ Abe Lincoln
His Birthday in February too.
In Eighteen and sixty-five
The year after Booth’s fatal shot
Both House’s of Congress gathered
For a Memorial and solemn thought.
Not a Federal Holiday like George’s
But legal in more than one State
And then a Resolution was enacted
Back in Nineteen sixty-eight.
They made the third Monday of the month
To make for a three day weekend
To honor Washington and Lincoln
And this story comes to it’s end.

Valentine's Day

Welcome My GD Legacy Queens,
Happy Valentine's Day!!! So, are you ladies wondering what you can do today to spice up your evening but low on cash. Well, let's first start out with Valentine's day is about love, so no matter what you do, if your man loves you then he will love whatever you all do, and I am sure he is just as worried as you are about making this particular day special.
Now, I know your pockets are probably low on cash and your on a tight budget, no worries though it's the little things you and your beau can do to spice it up. Let's start off with you getting off of work a little early, head to the grocery store and pick up some items to cook a special dinner for you and your hunny. I recommend something light but tasty, FYI steak, vegetables, baked potatoe, 2 tall candles (Target) and good quality wine (Red Wine) always goes well with steak. Now ladies with this dinner you just can't go wrong, trust.
Next off to the closet you go! A Black little dress, should be on your list to check off for what to wear tonight. This dress let's him know your ready and feeling confident. What man doesn't want to see his girlfriend or wife in a sexy black little dress. As far as your hair goes, a nice up do just wearing your hair down is up to you. Now to set off the outfit make sure to put on your sexy woman heels and light make-up. Remember less is more these days and always.
Set the table, light the candles and wait for him to walk through the door in shock. Meet him at the door take his coat and guide him to the dinner table. If you want to set the mood why not turn on some music that you both like and even the evening of everlasting conversation. After dinner pop in the movie that he brought over slip into something a little bit more comfortable.
This is a quick put it together Valentine's Day that won't let you down and you do not have to spend a ton of money to make the day wonderful. Just dinner, music and a movie and you and your beau will be glad that you two spent it together in the comfort of your home.

Taking Sometime Out For Me

GD Legacy Queens,

Taking time out for ourselves, is that something we do? Let's talk about taking sometime out for you. As women we live busy and fast pace lives. It's no longer the traditional lifestyle where we are at home all day cooking and cleaning; we have more on our plates which is fine since we are the, "Multi-taskers". We are the student, athlete, designer, mom, daughter, girlfriend, wife, boss, assistant, producer and the list goes on. Our days start out with waking up, showering, brushing teeth, doing our hair and make-up routine, getting dressed, eating and going to school, dropping off  the kids at school, getting to work and then fullfilling all of the work duties for the day, let's not forget managing personalities at work. After a full day of carrying out responsibilities and dealing with kids, family, friends and coworkers, your day could have been a very stressful and tense induced one.

So ask yourself how do I feel today? What do I need today or at this moment? We should ask ourselves these questions because how much can we do before we just hit overload, I mean come on let's be realistic. We can't do everything and be everyone's hero but we can be our own. Sometimes we have to save ourselves first before we can fulfill anyone else's needs. If you run yourself down to the ground how can you be the support to everyone else who depends on you. When you feel that stress and tension coming on, take a few minutes to yourself and enjoy some, "ME TIME."  This time is your time and no one elses time.

Take a few minutes and figure out where can you get away from everything and just relax. Is it getting 30 minutes to take a yoga class, pedicure and manicure, writing in your journal, escape into a room and rock in your rocking chair in pure silence, read a book, or even take 20 minutes to pray and read your bible, whatever it may be please find what works for you. Figure out what helps you escape and get some me time in, becaue it is really important. Taking time out for yourself is healthy because you are giving yourself time to unwind and restore your mental being. If you get in a routine with taking time out for yourself then you will find that your everyday life demands will be easier to get through. All of the hats you wear gets easier because you now have a balance of mind, body and soul.

So GD Legacy Queens make sure your getting in some "Me Time" and feel free to share with other ladies what works for you and how it has impacted a difference in your life.
